GATE Chemical Engineering (CH) Exam Structure

The GATE CH exam is a computer-based test designed to evaluate a candidate's aptitude and technical knowledge.

• Exam Mode: Computer-Based Test (CBT).
• Duration: 3 hours (180 minutes).
• Total Questions: 65 questions for a total of 100 marks.
• Sections: The paper is divided into two main sections:
  • General Aptitude (GA): This section is common to all GATE papers. It consists of 10 questions (5 one-mark and 5 two-mark) totaling 15 marks. It covers Verbal Ability and Numerical Ability.
  • Core Subject (Chemical Engineering): This section contains 55 questions totaling 85 marks. It includes questions from all core areas of chemical engineering.
• Question Types: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.
• Negative Marking: For MCQs, 1/3 mark is deducted for a wrong 1-mark question, and 2/3 mark for a wrong 2-mark question. There is no negative marking for MSQ or NAT questions.

Key Eligibility Criteria

• Education: A candidate must be in the third or higher year of any undergraduate degree program in Engineering/Technology/Architecture/Science/Commerce/Arts or have already completed one.
• Age Limit: There is no age limit to appear for the GATE examination.

How to Apply for the GATE Exam

The application process for GATE is conducted online through the official GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) portal.

1. Visit the GOAPS Portal: Go to the official GATE website (e.g., gate.iitkgp.ac.in - the organizing institute changes yearly) and find the link to the GOAPS portal.
2. Register: Register by providing your name, a valid email address, and a mobile number. You will receive an Enrollment ID and password.
3. Login and Fill Application Form: Log in with your credentials and fill in the application form with your personal details, communication address, eligibility degree details, and choice of GATE paper and examination cities.
4. Upload Documents: Upload high-quality scanned images of your photograph, signature, and category certificate (if applicable) as per the specified guidelines.
