Background: The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme was launched to provide income support to all landholding farmer families in the country. The scheme aims to supplement their financial needs for agricultural and allied activities as well as domestic needs. Current Context: On July 22, 2026, the government disbursed the 17th installment of financial assistance under the PM-KISAN scheme. This installment, amounting to over ₹20,000 crore, reached more than 9 crore eligible farmer families across India, directly into their bank accounts via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Impact: This timely disbursement provides crucial financial relief to farmers, enabling them to meet immediate agricultural expenses, purchase inputs for the upcoming season, and manage household expenditures, thereby enhancing rural economic activity and farmer livelihoods.
