Background: India's Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also known as Mangalyaan, successfully entered Mars orbit in 2014, making India the first Asian nation to do so and the first in the world to achieve it on its maiden attempt. The mission provided valuable data on the Martian surface and atmosphere. Current Context: Building on this success, ISRO is reportedly in the advanced planning stages for Mangalyaan-3. While specific details are yet to be officially released, the mission is expected to leverage advanced technologies and scientific instruments to conduct more in-depth studies of Mars. Impact: Mangalyaan-3 aims to further our understanding of Martian geology, climate, and the potential for past or present life, contributing significantly to global planetary science and reinforcing India's position as a leader in space exploration.
