KVS PGT Exam Eligibility Criteria
Updated 2026Candidates must possess a two-year integrated postgraduate M.Sc. course in the relevant subject from the Regional College of Education of NCERT, or a Master's degree from a recognized University with at least 50% marks in the relevant subject. Furthermore, a B.Ed. or equivalent degree is mandatory. Proficiency in teaching in both Hindi and English is required, and knowledge of computer applications is desirable.
Specific subject-wise qualifications include: English for PGT English; Hindi/Sanskrit at graduation level for PGT Hindi; Physics/Electronics for PGT Physics; Chemistry/Biochemistry for PGT Chemistry; Economics/Applied Economics for PGT Economics; M.Com for PGT Commerce; Mathematics/Applied Math for PGT Math; and specific life science degrees for PGT Biology.
The candidate must be at least 18 years old and not exceed a maximum age of 40 years as of the designated closing date of the application form. Age is calculated based on the specific cutoff date mentioned in the official notification. Candidates must ensure they fulfill this criteria before initiating their online registration.
The selection process consists of two distinct stages:
- Written Test: A 180-mark examination assessing general awareness, reasoning, teaching aptitude, and core subject knowledge. This is the primary hurdle for shortlisting candidates.
- Professional Competency Test (60 marks): Consists of two sub-parts: A Teaching Demo (30 marks) and an Interview (30 marks). This stage evaluates the candidate's real-world teaching potential and interpersonal skills.
- SC/ST: 5 years
- OBC (NCL): 3 years
- Women (all categories for teaching posts): 10 years
- KVS Employees: No age limit
- Central Govt Employees (3 years service): 5 years (Gen), 10 years (SC), 8 years (OBC)
- Jammu & Kashmir residents (1980-1989): 5 years
- PwD (including women): 10 years (Gen), 13 years (OBC), 15 years (SC/ST)
- Ex-Servicemen (Group B): Up to 8 years (depending on category and service deduction)
