AP TET Eligibility Criteria

Updated 2026

Candidates must meet rigorous academic and training standards to be considered eligible for the AP TET 2025 examination. The criteria vary depending on the paper for which the candidate is appearing:

  • For Paper 1A (Classes I–V, Regular Schools): Candidates must possess an Intermediate certificate or equivalent with at least 50% marks (45% for reserved categories like SC/ST/BC/PwBD). Additionally, a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) or a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) is required.
  • For Paper 1B (Classes I–V, Special Schools): Candidates require an Intermediate qualification with 50% marks and must hold a 2-year Diploma in Special Education or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI).
  • For Paper 2A (Classes VI–VIII, Regular): Candidates must be Graduates with at least 50% marks (45% for reserved categories) and hold a B.Ed. degree or an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • For Paper 2B (Classes VI–VIII, Special Schools): Candidates need a Graduation or Post-Graduation degree with 50% marks and a B.Ed. degree in Special Education or an equivalent RCI-recognized qualification.

Individuals currently in their final year of these teacher education programs are permitted to apply; however, they must successfully complete their course requirements before they can be considered in any subsequent teacher recruitment examination.

The official notification for AP TET 2025 does not specify a rigid age limit for appearing in the eligibility test itself. As this is an eligibility examination rather than a direct recruitment, the focus is primarily on educational and pedagogical qualifications. However, candidates must be aware that while there may be no age bar for the test, individual recruitment drives for teaching positions might have specific age requirements and relaxations as defined by the Government of Andhra Pradesh at the time of job advertisements. It is advisable for candidates to ensure they fulfill all necessary age criteria when applying for specific school vacancies post-qualification.

The selection process for AP TET 2025 is structured as a qualifying stage to assess an individual's competency to teach at various levels. The test is divided into four papers based on the teaching level and the nature of the school:

  • Paper I A: Designed for candidates who intend to teach Classes I to V in general schools. The exam tests the candidate's understanding of primary school subjects and pedagogical methods.
  • Paper I B: Specifically for candidates aiming to teach Classes I to V in Special Education Schools, focusing on specialized pedagogical skills.
  • Paper II A: Intended for candidates who wish to teach Classes VI to VIII in regular schools, evaluating their knowledge of advanced subject content and teaching techniques.
  • Paper II B: Tailored for candidates looking to teach Classes VI to VIII in Special Education Schools, incorporating specialized disability-related content.

Qualifying the examination is based solely on achieving the minimum passing marks prescribed by the state authorities. There are no subsequent interview or physical rounds associated with the TET itself; however, the score obtained in the TET serves as a critical credential for the actual teacher recruitment process. Once qualified, candidates receive a lifetime valid certificate, which they use to apply for specific teaching posts in Government and Aided schools.

As the AP TET 2025 is an eligibility-based examination and does not have a strict age limit for taking the test itself, no specific age relaxation table is provided for the test. However, candidates should note that standard age relaxation policies generally apply to the subsequent recruitment drives conducted by the Department of School Education for teaching posts. These relaxations are typically extended to candidates belonging to reserved categories such as SC, ST, BC, and other government-notified categories as per state rules. Candidates are encouraged to check the specific government notifications released during the time of actual teacher recruitment to verify applicable age relaxation norms.
