APPSC VRO Recruitment Eligibility Criteria

Updated 2026

The educational standards for the APPSC VRO 2020 recruitment are clearly defined to ensure that the recruited personnel possess the technical and academic capability to manage land and revenue records effectively. The core requirements include:

  • Secondary School Certificate: Applicants must have successfully passed the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination or an equivalent qualification as recognized by the Andhra Pradesh State & Subordinate Services Rules.
  • Technical Qualification: Candidates must hold a National Council of Vocational Training (NCVT) Certificate in the 'Draughtsman (Civil)' trade. This qualification must specifically include 'Surveying' as a subject, obtained from an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) recognized by the Government of India.
  • Higher Qualifications: While the above are the mandatory minimums, candidates possessing higher academic or technical qualifications in related fields are also eligible to apply.

In addition to these educational requirements, candidates must meet general eligibility standards, including being a citizen of India, possessing sound health and good habits, and maintaining a clean criminal record. The character and conduct of the applicant must also be in good standing, as this is a government position of responsibility.

Eligibility for the APPSC VRO post is contingent upon meeting specific age requirements. As of July 1, 2020, candidates must be at least 18 years of age and not exceed 42 years of age.

Calculation and Cut-off Dates: To qualify, candidates must have been born on or after July 2, 1978, and on or before July 1, 2002. This specific window is established to ensure the candidate fits within the professional age range suitable for the responsibilities of the role. Age verification is conducted during the document verification process using the candidate’s 10th-grade (Secondary School Certificate) records. Candidates unable to provide a birth certificate or 10th-grade marksheet as proof of age will not be considered eligible, regardless of their performance in the written examination. Adherence to these strict age limits is a prerequisite, and any candidate outside this bracket will be automatically ineligible to participate in the selection process.

The selection process for the APPSC VRO Recruitment 2020 is designed to assess both theoretical knowledge and technical competence through a single-stage, objective-based written examination. The entire process follows these key phases:

  • Offline Written Test: All eligible candidates must appear for an offline written exam conducted in a conventional pen-and-paper format.
  • Objective-Based Structure: The exam comprises 150 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), ensuring a standardized evaluation method. Each question carries a specific weightage, contributing to the total score of 150 marks.
  • Merit-Based Selection: The final merit list is curated strictly on the basis of the marks secured by candidates in the written examination. There are no additional interview stages mentioned; the written exam serves as the primary and final point of assessment.
  • Cut-off Compliance: Candidates must score at or above their respective category-wise cut-off marks. While meeting the minimum cut-off is necessary, it is not a guarantee of selection. Candidates should aim for the highest possible score to ensure their placement in the final merit list.
  • Document Verification: Following the declaration of results and the preparation of the merit list, shortlisted candidates will be called for document verification. During this stage, original copies of all educational, age, and category certificates are checked against the claims made during the online application process.

To encourage diversity and accommodate specific groups, the Andhra Pradesh government provides age relaxation for certain categories. These relaxations are applied over and above the standard maximum age limit of 42 years.

  • SC / ST and BC: 5 years of relaxation.
  • Physically Handicapped: 10 years of relaxation.
  • Ex-Servicemen: 3 years of relaxation.
  • NCC (National Cadet Corps): 3 years of relaxation.
  • Andhra Pradesh State Government Employees: 5 years of relaxation.
  • Divorced Women: 6 years of relaxation.

Candidates belonging to these categories must provide valid, government-authorized documentation to support their claim for age relaxation during the document verification stage. Failure to produce valid certificates may result in the forfeiture of the relaxation benefit and subsequent disqualification if the candidate exceeds the standard age limit.
