PSPCL JE (Junior Engineer) Eligibility Criteria
Updated 2026
Candidates must meet stringent educational criteria to be eligible for the Junior Engineer positions. The qualifications depend on the technical discipline applied for and must be obtained from a recognized board or university.
- Educational Standards: Candidates must hold either a 3 or 4-year Diploma in Electrical, Electrical & Electronics engineering with at least 60% marks. Alternatively, candidates possessing a B.E., B.Tech, or B.Sc. Engineering degree in the respective field with a minimum of 50% marks are eligible. Another accepted qualification is an AMIE degree in Electrical/Electrical & Electronics engineering with at least 50% marks.
- Linguistic Competency: All applicants must possess verified proficiency in the Punjabi language. This is proven by having passed the Punjabi language subject at the matriculation (10th level) or an equivalent examination. The educational qualification is a mandatory gateway; candidates without the required percentage or the mandatory language certification will be deemed ineligible regardless of their performance in the written test.
The age eligibility for the PSPCL JE 2026 recruitment is determined as of 1st January 2026. General category candidates must be between 18 and 37 years of age. This standard range ensures that the organization recruits individuals who are at the start or early stages of their professional careers, allowing for a long-term contribution to the state's power infrastructure. The calculation of the age limit on a specific cut-off date is a standard administrative practice to maintain fairness across all applicants. Candidates failing to meet this age requirement, without the benefit of specific category-based relaxations, will not be considered for the selection process. It is highly recommended that all candidates double-check their birth dates against the 1st January 2026 deadline before starting the application, as age proof will be strictly scrutinized during the document verification stage.
The selection process for the position of Junior Engineer (JE) within the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited is streamlined into two primary, merit-based phases designed to identify the most suitable candidates.
- Phase 1: Computer-Based Test (CBT): This is the initial and most critical stage of the selection process. The examination is conducted in an online, written format. Candidates are tested on a total of 100 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) covering technical electrical core subjects, Punjabi language, General Knowledge, Reasoning, and English. The exam is held for a duration of 2 hours. Qualifying this test is the mandatory prerequisite for advancing to the next stage. Candidates must keep in mind the negative marking scheme, where 0.25 marks are deducted for every incorrect response.
- Phase 2: Merit List Preparation: Following the CBT, the organization compiles a merit list of candidates who have successfully cleared the cut-off marks. The merit list is determined by the candidateβs performance in the written test.
- Phase 3: Document Verification: Candidates shortlisted in the merit list are summoned for document verification. This is the final stage where the candidate's academic certificates, caste/category status, age proof, and language proficiency are formally inspected. Only candidates who pass this verification stage are recommended for final selection and appointment.
- General: 18 to 37 Years.
- SC and Backward Class: 5 years over and above the maximum age (up to 42 years).
- Physically Handicapped: 10 years over and above the maximum age (up to 47 years).
