Green jobs are defined as jobs that contribute to preserving or restoring environmental quality, whether in traditional sectors like manufacturing and construction or in new, emerging green sectors like renewable energy and energy efficiency.

The primary objective of GSDP is to create a skilled workforce for green jobs, specifically in the environment, forest, and wildlife sectors, to address the skill gaps in these areas.

The Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) is an initiative of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) to skill youth in environment, forest, and wildlife sectors.

One of the key exclusion criteria for the PM-KISAN scheme is "All persons who paid Income Tax in the last assessment year." Small and marginal farmers and farmer families with landholdings above 2 hectares are generally included after the expansion (unless they fall under other exclusion criteria). Rural landless laborers are not directly covered as the scheme is for landholding farmers.

The scheme provides an income support of ₹6,000 per year to all eligible farmer families across the country in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each every four months.

Initially, PM-KISAN was for Small and Marginal Farmer (SMF) families with combined landholding up to 2 hectares. In June 2019, it was expanded to cover all landholding farmer families, irrespective of the size of their landholding, subject to certain exclusion criteria.
