Rajasthan SET Eligibility Criteria
Updated 2026
The educational qualification for the Rajasthan SET 2026 is stringent and ensures that only qualified individuals can appear for the exam. The criteria are as follows:
- General/Unreserved/General-EWS: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or an equivalent examination recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) with a minimum of 55% marks.
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender: These candidates must have secured a minimum of 50% marks in their Master’s degree or equivalent examination recognized by the UGC.
- Final Year Students: Candidates currently pursuing their final year of a Master's degree program, whose results are currently pending, are eligible to apply.
- Subject Specificity: The Master's degree must be in the exact same discipline or subject for which the candidate is applying.
- Population Studies Exception: Candidates holding a Master's degree in Geography with a specialization in Population Studies are eligible for the 'Population Studies' subject.
- List Compliance: Candidates must strictly apply only for the subject they have pursued during their post-graduation. If their specific subject is not on the provided list of 37 subjects, they are encouraged to appear for the UGC NET or UGC-CSIR NET instead.
One of the most favorable aspects of the Rajasthan SET 2026 eligibility criteria is the absence of any upper age limit constraint. There is no minimum or maximum age limit specified in the official notification, allowing individuals at any stage of their academic or professional careers to apply, provided they meet the requisite educational qualifications for the Assistant Professor position.
The selection process for the Rajasthan SET is a two-part procedure: first, passing the eligibility examination, and second, applying for specific teaching positions. The SET exam is not a direct recruitment; it acts as an eligibility certificate. Once a candidate clears the exam, they receive an eligibility certificate, which is valid for a lifetime in the state of Rajasthan. After obtaining this certificate, candidates become eligible to apply for Assistant Professor vacancies in the various state government-affiliated universities and colleges. The selection process for those teaching positions (such as interviews or document verification) is managed independently by the respective colleges or universities according to their own recruitment guidelines.
As there is no upper age limit mandated for the Rajasthan SET 2026, the question of age relaxation for various categories is not applicable for this specific examination. All candidates, regardless of their category, can apply for the test without worrying about age-based restrictions or the need for age-related concessions.
