Karnataka Teacher Eligibility Test Eligibility Criteria
Updated 2026Paper I (Classes I-V): PUC/Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education or equivalent.
Paper II (Classes VI-VIII): Graduation and a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education or a B.Ed degree from a recognized institution.
The minimum age limit for candidates is 18 years. There is no specific upper age limit prescribed for appearing in the eligibility test, as it is a certification exam, provided the candidate meets the minimum educational qualifications.
The selection process for the Karnataka TET consists of a single-stage objective-type written examination. Candidates must qualify in the written test by securing the minimum threshold marks to obtain the eligibility certificate, which remains valid for the period prescribed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE).
Age relaxation policies are generally not applicable to the TET itself as there is no upper age limit. However, when using the TET certificate to apply for specific government teaching posts, candidates from reserved categories such as SC, ST, and OBC receive age relaxation as per the prevailing state government norms.
