HSSC TGT Eligibility Criteria 2026

To be considered for the TGT position, candidates must meet rigorous academic and professional standards. The baseline requirement includes a Bachelor's degree with at least 50% marks in the concerned subject and in aggregate. In addition to academic credentials, a B.Ed. or an equivalent degree from a recognized university is mandatory. Candidates must also possess a certificate confirming they have passed the Haryana Teacher Eligibility Test (HTET) or the School Teachers Eligibility Test (STET), which is a non-negotiable requirement for all teaching applicants. Furthermore, a foundational knowledge of the local language is required; candidates must have studied Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject at the matriculation level or higher (10+2/B.A./M.A.). Proficiency in teaching both Hindi and English is expected to ensure effective communication within the classroom environment.

The HSSC strictly adheres to age limit regulations to maintain professional standards within the teaching cadre. The minimum age for any candidate applying for the TGT post is 18 years. The maximum age limit is established at 42 years for candidates falling under the general category. It is essential to refer to the official cutoff date mentioned in the specific recruitment notification to calculate age, as this is the standard used for all age-related eligibility checks. Candidates exceeding the age limit must rely on the specific relaxation categories provided by the commission to be considered eligible.

The selection is primarily determined by the score obtained in the 95-mark written exam. The remaining 5% of the evaluation is based on objective socio-economic factors. These factors include checking for non-employment in any government entity (state or central) within the family, or whether the candidate belongs to specific categories like widows, children of deceased government employees, or denotified tribes of Haryana. Additionally, experience in state-related services (between 6 months and 8 years) grants a proportional weightage of 0.5% per year, contributing to the total socio-economic score.

• Scheduled Castes: 5 years.
• Backward Classes: 5 years.
• Disabled Persons: Up to 10 years (or 15 years if belonging to SC/BC/EWS) subject to a maximum age of 52 years.
• Military Personnel Wives (disabled in service): 5 years.
• Widowed/Divorced/Separated/Unmarried Women: 5 years.
• Ex-servicemen: Relaxation based on years of military service plus three years, provided they have rendered at least 6 months of service and were released without disciplinary issues.
• Adhoc/Contractual Staff of Haryana Government: Relaxation equal to the number of completed years in service, excluding breaks, subject to a maximum of 52 years, provided they have not previously utilized this benefit for regular appointment.
