UKPSC RO ARO (Combined Recruitment) Eligibility Criteria

Updated 2026

To be eligible for the Review Officer (RO) and Assistant Review Officer (ARO) positions, candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree (Graduation) from a recognized university. Beyond the educational degree, technical qualifications are mandatory. Candidates must possess working knowledge of computers. Specifically for the practical proficiency requirements, candidates must demonstrate a Hindi typing speed of at least 4000 key depressions per hour and an English typing speed of 8000 kdph for RO, or 9000 kdph for ARO, during the practical test phase. Preference is often given to candidates with service in the Territorial Army (two years minimum) or those holding NCC 'B' or 'C' certificates.

The prescribed age limit for candidates applying for the UKPSC RO ARO recruitment is 21 to 42 years. This age bracket is calculated as of the crucial dates mentioned in the official notification. Candidates must ensure they meet these requirements to avoid disqualification during the initial document verification stages. Age relaxation is provided to various reserved categories as per the official Uttarakhand government regulations, which is typically updated in the detailed recruitment notification at the start of every cycle.

Stages of Selection

  • 1. Preliminary Examination: A screening objective-type test consisting of 150 marks. It includes two sections: General Studies (100 marks) and General Aptitude (50 marks). The duration is 2 hours.
  • 2. Main Examination: This stage is more comprehensive, comprising two papers of 200 marks each, focusing on Essay writing, Letter writing, and Grammar in both English and Hindi. The duration for the total exam is 6 hours.
  • 3. Practical Test: Applicable specifically to the Assistant Review Officer (ARO) post. This is a qualifying test where candidates must meet the minimum typing speed standards (4000 kdph in Hindi, 9000 kdph in English) over a 10-minute session.

Age relaxation is provided to reserved category candidates in accordance with the policies set by the Uttarakhand government. While the standard age limit is 21 to 42 years, candidates belonging to specific categories (such as SC, ST, OBC, PWD, and ex-servicemen) are granted extensions. These relaxations are mandatory and are applied to the maximum age limit only. Prospective applicants should refer to the official government notification released at the start of the recruitment process for the exact number of years of relaxation allowed for each individual category.
