JKSSB Junior Assistant Eligibility Criteria

Updated 2026

To be eligible for the Junior Assistant position, candidates must meet specific academic and technical benchmarks. The qualification standards have been set to ensure that successful candidates possess the administrative competence required for official duties.

  • Academic Degree: Every applicant must hold a graduation degree from a university or institution recognized by the government. There is no specific stream mentioned for the degree, meaning candidates from all fields (Arts, Science, Commerce, etc.) are eligible provided their institution is accredited.
  • Technical Proficiency: Beyond the academic degree, candidates must demonstrate expertise in computer operation and typing. A minimum typing speed of 35 words per minute is required. This is verified during the skill test stage, where candidates must also maintain an accuracy of 90%.
  • Domicile Condition: Possession of a valid domicile certificate for the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir is mandatory. This is a primary eligibility requirement that verifies the candidate’s residential status in the region.

Candidates are encouraged to obtain all necessary documents regarding their graduation and technical training before the interview or document verification process, as any discrepancy in these documents can lead to the cancellation of the application.

The age limit criteria for the Junior Assistant recruitment are crucial for determining candidate eligibility. As of 01.01.2025, candidates must fall within the specific age brackets defined by their respective categories. The general requirement for the Open Merit (OM) category is a maximum of 40 years. However, the Board provides various relaxations for other categories, extending the upper age limit to ensure equitable opportunity.

It is vital for candidates to calculate their age accurately based on the 1st of January 2025. Candidates who exceed the maximum age limit, even by a small margin, are disqualified from the selection process. Proof of age, such as a birth certificate or class 10th mark sheet, is mandatory during the document verification stage. Government employees and individuals in contractual services also have specific upper age limits to adhere to, which must be verified against their service records to ensure they meet the board's criteria.

The selection process for the Junior Assistant post is highly systematic, consisting of two main stages that test both the analytical and practical capabilities of the aspirants.

  • Stage 1: Written Examination: The first stage is a Computer-Based Test (CBT) worth 80 points. This test is objective in nature and covers four distinct units: General English, General Awareness (with a focus on J&K), Numerical & Reasoning Ability, and Basic Concepts of Computers. Each unit holds equal weightage, and candidates are tested within a duration of 80 minutes. The marking scheme includes negative marking (0.25 points for every incorrect answer), which makes accuracy and careful answering essential.
  • Stage 2: Typing Skill Test: Candidates who successfully qualify in the written examination are shortlisted for the typing/skill test. This phase is evaluated for 20 points. During the test, candidates must demonstrate a typing speed of 35 words per minute while maintaining a minimum accuracy rate of 90%. The marks obtained in this stage are calculated proportionally and are added to the final merit score.

The final selection is based on the combined performance of both the written examination and the skill test. Only those who clear both thresholds and complete the document verification process are considered for the final appointment.
