Delhi Forest Guard Exam Eligibility Criteria

Updated 2026

The educational qualification requirements vary depending on the post being applied for:

  • Forest Ranger: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering from a recognized University or Institute. Relevant subjects include Agriculture, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Application/Computer Science, Engineering (Agriculture, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical), Environmental Science, Forestry, Geology, Horticulture, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Veterinary Science, or Zoology.
  • Forest Guard: Candidates must have successfully passed the 12th standard (Senior Secondary) examination from a recognized board.
  • Wildlife Guard: Candidates must have passed the 10th standard (Secondary) examination from a recognized Board or Institute.

Candidates must ensure they possess the necessary degree or certificate from a recognized authority. During the document verification process, candidates will be required to produce original mark sheets and certificates for all semesters or years of their qualification. Discrepancies in educational claims will lead to the rejection of the candidate at any stage of the recruitment process.

The age criteria for the Delhi Forest Guard recruitment are strictly defined based on the specific post for which the candidate is applying. These age limits are designed to align with government service standards. For the post of Forest Ranger, the upper age limit is 30 years. For the posts of Forest Guard and Wildlife Guard, the age range is expected to be between 18 and 27 years. These age calculations are critical, and candidates must ensure their age falls within the required bracket as of the reference date mentioned in the official notification. Any candidate found to be outside these age limits at the time of application will not be considered for the selection process. It is important for candidates to verify their age using valid government-issued identity documents that reflect their date of birth, as this will be cross-referenced during the document verification stage.

The selection process for the Delhi Forest Guard recruitment is a rigorous, multi-stage assessment designed to ensure only the most suitable candidates are chosen. The process generally comprises three primary stages: a Computer-Based Test (CBT), a Physical Test, and Document Verification.

1. Computer-Based Test (CBT)

The CBT is an online examination where each question carries one mark. To maintain the integrity of the test and discourage guessing, a negative marking scheme is implemented, with 1/4th of a mark deducted for every incorrect response. The test covers subjects like General Intelligence, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension. For the post of Forest Ranger, the test also incorporates technical subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics/Biology.

2. Physical Test

Qualified candidates from the CBT stage proceed to the physical test. This stage involves meeting specific height and chest girth standards. Furthermore, candidates must participate in a running test, covering a designated distance within a set timeframe. This stage is mandatory for Forest Ranger and Forest Guard posts, while it is not applicable for the Wildlife Guard/Game Watcher role.

3. Document Verification

This is the final stage of the process. Candidates must appear with their original documents for verification, including their system-generated application printout, fee receipt, birth certificate, educational degree certificates, category certificates (if applicable), and valid identity proofs like an Aadhar Card or Voter ID. Failure to produce the required documentation or missing the verification appointment will result in disqualification, with no second opportunity provided.

  • Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes: Candidates in these categories receive a 5-year age relaxation.
  • Other Backward Class (OBC): Candidates in this category are eligible for a 3-year age relaxation.
  • Departmental Candidates (with 3 years of continuous service in the Govt. of NCT of Delhi):
    • For Group ‘B’ posts: Up to 5 years relaxation.
    • For Group ‘C’ posts: Up to 40 years of age (45 years for SC/ST, 43 years for OBC).
