ISRO Scientist Civil Engineering Eligibility Criteria 2026

To be considered for the Scientist/Engineer (Civil) position, candidates must meet specific academic requirements. The applicant must hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (BE) or B.Tech in Civil Engineering. A critical requirement is that the candidate must have passed this degree in 'First Class' with an aggregate minimum of 65% marks or a CGPA of 6.84/10. Candidates who do not meet these academic criteria will not be eligible for the screening process. Since the role is of a technical nature, ISRO ensures that only those with a strong academic foundation in their field of specialization are allowed to proceed to the written exam stage.

The eligibility criteria regarding age are strictly monitored to ensure candidates are within the required age bracket for the Scientist/Engineer (Civil) position. The minimum age requirement for an applicant is 18 years. The maximum age limit is fixed at 35 years as on the last date of the application window. This age threshold is calculated against the closing date for submission, and candidates must ensure they meet this requirement to be eligible for the screening process. Proof of age, usually in the form of a birth certificate or a recognized school certificate, must be provided during the document verification stage.

The selection process for the ISRO Scientist/Engineer (Civil) post is a two-staged methodology aimed at ensuring only high-caliber talent is chosen.

1. Written Exam

This is the first stage and serves as a screening test. It is objective in nature and designed to test the candidate's core knowledge of Civil Engineering. The marks secured in this stage are used solely for shortlisting candidates for the next round; they are not included in the final merit evaluation.

2. Interview

Candidates who successfully clear the written test are invited for a personal interview. This is the final and most important stage. The final selection is based entirely on the candidate’s performance in this round. To be considered for the final selection, a candidate must secure a minimum of 60% marks in the interview.

After clearing the interview, candidates undergo a document verification process at the ISRO headquarters. Required documents include:

• No Objection Certificate (for those currently employed)
• Declaration of Unemployment
• Medical certificate
• School Certificate
• Creamy Layer Certificate
• Domicile Certificate

ISRO provides specific age relaxations for certain categories to promote inclusive recruitment. These relaxations apply to the upper age limit of 35 years:

• ST (Scheduled Tribes): Up to 40 years.
• OBC (Other Backward Classes): Up to 38 years.
• Ex-servicemen & PWBD (Persons with Benchmark Disabilities): Age relaxation as per the existing orders of the Indian Government.
