- General Requirement: All posts require a minimum of 10th-grade (Matriculation) pass from a recognized board.
- Constable (Driver): Matriculation + Valid Heavy Vehicle Driving License.
- Constable (Veterinary): Matriculation with Science as a main subject + 1-year experience in animal treatment at a recognized veterinary hospital.
- Constable (Carpenter): Matriculation + 2 years of experience in the trade OR 1-year certificate from ITI/Vocational Institute with 1-year experience OR 2-year ITI Diploma in the respective/similar trade + qualifying the trade test.
- Constable (Other Trades - Gardener, Water Carrier, Cobbler, Tailor, Washerman, Barber, Waiter): Matriculation + 2 years of experience in the trade OR 1-year certificate from ITI/Vocational Institute with 1-year experience OR 2-year ITI Diploma in the relevant/similar trade + qualifying the trade test.
- Constable (Nursing Orderly): Matriculation + First Aid certificate from St. John's Ambulance or Red Cross Society + 1 year of experience as a Nursing Orderly in a minimum 50-bedded hospital.
The age criteria for the SSB Constable 2026 recruitment vary depending on the trade/post being applied for. The general age limits are as follows:
- Constable (Driver): 18 - 27 years
- Constable (Veterinary): 18 - 27 years
- Constable (Nursing Orderly): 18 - 27 years

The selection process for the SSB Constable 2026 consists of four distinct, mandatory stages designed to evaluate the physical and academic readiness of candidates:
- Stage I: Physical Test: This includes the Physical Efficiency Test (PET), which evaluates the physical endurance of candidates (such as running), and the Physical Standards Test (PST), where height and weight are measured against set benchmarks.
- Stage II: Written Examination: A 100-mark objective-type computer-based test (CBT). It covers General Knowledge, Mathematics, Reasoning, and English/Hindi language. Scoring at least 50% (45% for SC/ST) is required.
