ITBP Assistant Commandant Recruitment Eligibility Criteria
Updated 2026To be eligible for the Assistant Commandant (Engineer) position, candidates must possess a formal educational background that aligns with the technical requirements of the role. The primary requirement is that the candidate must have completed their graduation from a recognized university. Given the nature of the position, which is within the engineering discipline, it is expected that the degree is relevant to the technical nature of the post. Candidates must hold valid, verifiable certificates from institutions recognized by the relevant educational authorities in India. Failure to produce original mark sheets or degree certificates during the documentation phase will result in the immediate rejection of the candidature.
The age limit is a critical eligibility factor for the ITBP Assistant Commandant position. As specified in the notification, the upper age limit for candidates applying for this post is 30 years. This age constraint is strictly applied, and candidates must ensure that their age falls within the required range as of the reference date mentioned in the official document. It is imperative that candidates verify their age proof against the requirements to avoid disqualification during the document verification stage. Age relaxation, if applicable as per government norms for specific reserved categories, will be administered accordingly.
The selection process for the ITBP Assistant Commandant is highly comprehensive, designed to evaluate the physical, intellectual, and professional readiness of applicants. It consists of four distinct phases:
- Phase I (Physical): This stage includes both the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and the Physical Standard Test (PST). The PET involves athletic tasks such as a 100-meter race, an 800-meter race, long jump, and shot put (7.26 kg), which are qualifying in nature. The PST includes measurement of height, chest (for males), and weight relative to height.
- Phase II (Written): Candidates must take a Computer Based Test (CBT) worth 200 marks. This is a qualifying exam where candidates must score at least 50% (for UR/EWS) or 45% (for SC/ST/OBC).
- Phase III (Interview & Merit): Candidates who qualify in the previous stages are called for an interview worth 50 marks. The number of candidates invited to this stage is limited to five times the number of vacancies. A final merit list is prepared based on the combined scores of the written exam and the interview.
- Phase IV (Medical): The final stage is a rigorous medical examination, including a Detailed Medical Examination (DME) and a Review Medical Examination (RME) where necessary, to ensure the candidate is physically and mentally fit for service.
Information regarding specific age relaxation for categories such as SC, ST, OBC, and others is typically governed by the standard government regulations applicable to central armed police forces. While the base upper age limit is set at 30 years, candidates belonging to reserved categories are encouraged to refer to the official notification to ascertain the exact extent of the relaxation they are eligible for. The verification of these relaxations will occur during the document verification and interview stages, where candidates must produce authentic proof of their category status to avail of the benefits.
