Selection Process
The selection process for the Civil Services Examination is a rigorous three-stage procedure designed to test the intellectual and personality traits of the candidates. The first stage is the Preliminary Examination, which consists of two objective-type papers used for screening purposes. Candidates who qualify in this stage are eligible to appear for the Mains Examination.
The second stage, the Mains Examination, is a descriptive test comprising nine papers that evaluate the candidate's depth of knowledge and analytical skills. Finally, the Personality Test, or interview, assesses the candidate's suitability for a career in civil services. The final merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the Mains and the interview stages only.
