Essential Qualification: (i) Post Graduate degree from a recognized University in Physical Sciences (includes Physics/Applied Physics/Atmospheric Sciences/Meteorology/Oceanography/Climate Science/Geophysics with Meteorology/Environmental Sciences/Electronics or related subjects) OR Chemical Sciences (includes Chemistry/Physical Chemistry/Inorganic Chemistry/Organic Chemistry or related subjects) OR Mathematical Sciences (includes Mathematics/Applied Mathematics/Statistics or related subjects) OR M.Tech. in Atmospheric/Oceanic Sciences or related subjects OR Post Graduate degree in any branch of Engineering.
(ii) Candidate must have qualified in one of the following national level examinations: CSIR-UGC NET / UGC NET / ICAR NET (Lecturer/Assistantship) / GATE / JEST.
(iii) For General and OBC categories: minimum 55% marks in Post Graduate degree (50% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates).
(iv) Candidate has studied Physics or Mathematics at graduation level. Candidates with valid DST-INSPIRE fellowship but not qualified in above exams may avail DST-INSPIRE fellowship only. No experience mentioned.

  2. Fill in the application form completely with accurate personal and educational details, ensuring eligibility criteria are met.
  3. Documents to be Uploaded:
    • Recent passport-size photograph in JPG format (100 kB or less)
    • Signature
    • Scanned copies of original certificates
    • Mark lists up to the latest semester (for result-awaiting candidates, in a single PDF)
    • Reservation documents for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD categories in prescribed format
    • Brief resume
  4. Candidates with valid CSIR/UGC/DST-INSPIRE fellowship must specify whether they wish to avail IITM Research Fellowship or their existing fellowship.
  5. Submit the completed online application form. An Application ID will be generated, which should be preserved for future reference.
  6. Ensure that a valid email ID and mobile number are provided, as all communications including call letters will be sent only by email.
  7. In case of multiple applications, only the latest one will be considered.
  8. Submit the application before the closing date and time. The portal will remain open from 2026-03-12 (5:00 PM) to 2026-04-27 (5:00 PM).
  9. No printed copy of the application needs to be sent to Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology Pune.
  10. Candidates may keep a copy for future reference.

Selection Process
